Bouwlust / Vrederust District

The Hague, like many other cities across the globe, faces the challenge of housing its growing number of residents. Housing production has not kept pace with housing demand, resulting in a housing shortage across the city. When analyzing the Bouwlust / Vrederust district of The Hague by household type (singles, couples, families) vs available housing for each type, it becomes clear that there is:

• an under-supply of housing for single-person households,
• an over-supply of housing for two-person households,
• and an over-supply of housing for family households.

These findings are mostly consistent with the averages for the city as a whole. Based on the data, future development should prioritize creating small homes for single-person households in order to re-align housing supply with housing demand.
